The 6,000,000th Quattro Rolls out of Ingolstadt

The Audi factory in Ingolstadt just reached an important landmark: the production of the 6,000,000th Quattro-equipped vehicle. The decisive vehicle was a Audi SQ5 painted in Monsoon Grey sold to an unnamed American buyer.

About 30 years ago, the very first Quattro rolled out of that same factory. Since then, production of cars equipped with Audi's proprietary AWD steadily ramped up: only 1 and a half years ago, the manufacturer was celebrating its 5,000,000th car equipped with it!

If the name Quattro gained traction (pun intended) with its victories in Group B rallying, it became known in North America when Walter Röhrl climbed Pikes Peak in 1987 in an Audi Sport Quattro S1, shattering records in the process.

Approximately 2,000 Audis equipped with the Quattro system are built each day in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm. Surprisingly, if all North-American Audis come with AWD, it is not so in Europe. However, 44% of all Audis produced are equipped with this option.

With about 170 models fitted with AWD (including different body styles, engines and transmissions), Audi currently offers the largest selection of all-wheel drive vehicles.
