Nissan's Convertible CUV is Nailed to the Cross(cabriolet)

The news has now officially been confirmed by a Nissan spokesperson: the convertible version of the Murano known as the Crosscabriolet won’t be renewed for 2015, meaning it has less than a year to live.

Shocking, I know.

Seriously though, not a lot of people are going to mourn the passing of this strange bath tub on huge wheels. While the Crosscabriolet was never sold In Canada, some of them were imported here on the gray market, meaning it is not impossible to find one driving around Montreal.

When it came out, I was among the first to congratulate Nissan for taking risks. Not every manufacturer would have taken the risk of creating a vehicle for such a small niche! But as the years went by, we realized exactly why no one else built a luxury 2-doors crossover convertible: sales were abysmal, and very few were sold. The Crosscabriolet may be richly appointed if you compare it to the base-model Murano, but a starting price of over $40,000 certainly helped deter a few inquisitive customers…

So it is now time to bid farewell to the Nissan Murano Crosscabriolet, which will remain on sale until the end of 2014. The end of this model also marks the end of the weird-vehicle triumvirate, since the Cube will also be axed. The only one that remains is the Juke, but it has solid sales numbers!
