Changes in the Volkswagen Lineup

German manufacturer Volkswagen has just published a list of changes for its 2015 models. If the more obvious changes are the new Golf, the redesigned Touareg and the new EA288 diesel engine, a closer inspection of this press release reveals a few surprises.

First of all, we are now assured that the e-Golf will be sold on our continent. It will be the first fully-electric vehicle sold by VW in North America.

The new Golf R, with its AWD system and turbocharged 292 HP powerplant, will also be sold here for 2015. We can’t wait to see what this thing can do on our winter roads!

The Jetta SportWagen will be replaced by the Golf SportWagen, which is more spacious and refined.

As mentioned earlier, the Touareg gets a new design for 2015. It will feature a more modern front fascia and rear bumper, an up-to-date interior and a complete selection of driver aids.

All cars powered by the 2 liter diesel mill (Passat, Beetle, Golf and Jetta) will be fitted with the latest generation of this engine. Dubbed EA288, it is entirely new, and pumps out 150 HP and 236 lb-ft. of torque. It is also more economical than the powertrain it replaces.

We also learn about the imminent demise of the VW Eos, which won’t be offered in 2016. If you were waiting for one, you can now order a Final version, which will replace the Sport model.

And those of you who like the idea of an American vehicle with German design will be saddened by the death of the Routan minivan in 2015.
