Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard: A Posh Bank Vault

Published on August 5, 2014 in New Models by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

When dictators, army generals or rich criminals wants to buy a new vehicle, they don't have to look far: the Guard models offer them the very best in luxury, safety and protection. The latest model from Guard is this 2015 S600.

To create a Guard S-Class, the whole car is first of all stripped. Then, the body panels are reinforced with steel panels and aramid (a textile used in body armour). The windows are replaced with laminated glass and covered in polycarbonate. Finally, the whole underside of the car is covered in armoured plates, a first in the industry.

The S600 Guard was tested by various governments and earned the highest mark in safety, the VR9 designation. This means that it can survive a 6 kg landmine, a 15 kg IED, an antipersonnel mine or even two grenades placed directly on the car's top!

But let's not forget that this vehicle is still a Mercedes-Benz, with all the luxuries you would expect from it: the S600 Guard is equipped with massaging seats, a computer with Internet connection, heated windows and the perfume atomizer from the regular S-Class.

To move all this mass, the Guard S-Class makes use of a 530 horsepower V12.  Top speed is limited to 210 km/h because of its mass.
