An Electric Supercar That Uses Salt Water As Fuel?

An article on Jalopnik is discussing the new Quant e-Sport Limousine which was on display at the Geneva Motor Show back in March. This supercar is powered by a flow battery which only needs to be replenished with salt water in order to function.

Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Even the original author of the Jalopnik article plans to do more research into the subject. It’s sure to bring the conspiracy theorists out who say the government has known about this technology for a long time but has suppressed it in order to allow oil companies to continue doing their thing.

As for the car, the numbers are nothing short of impressive. A 227 horsepower electric motor powers each wheel for a total of 908 horsepower. These motors also produce 2,138 lb-ft of torque per wheel for a total of 8,552 lb-ft! The car allegedly can go 380 kilometres per hour.

Right now, the Quant is only in the research stage but the company hopes to bring it to market in a couple of years. The Wikipedia page for the vehicle seems a bit outdated, mentioning only its 2009 appearance at the Geneva Motor Show. The YouTube videos below are more recent.
