2014 Best Buys: Full-size SUVs

Published on October 27, 2014 in Blog by Alain Morin

Full-size SUVs may be criticized for their gargantuan dimensions and fuel consumption, but there are still a lot of buyers who remain loyal to these road beasts. If you’re a construction contractor or family that wants to tow a camper and travel in comfort, full-size SUVs are a great choice.

This year, top honours go to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, which boasts serious assembly, quality materials, excellent fit and trim, and a fantastic diesel engine (there are also various V8s).

The runner-up is the 2014 Dodge Durango. This testosterone-drenched vehicle is powered by fierce engines (though the 5.7-litre Hemi is a real guzzler) and features a modern and efficient dashboard.

Third in line is the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban. It’s insanely comfortable and strong enough to tow the West Edmonton Mall. Although it can be hard to park, it spoils passengers with a giant cabin. So what makes the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban better than its derivatives, the 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2014 GMC Yukon and 2014 Cadillac Escalade? It is simply because, according to the 2014 Guide de l’auto (our bestselling French publication), the Suburban strikes the best compromise between all four.

There are plenty of other bigfoots in this category, including the 2014 Ford Expedition, 2014 Infiniti QX80, 2014 Land Rover Range Rover, 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, 2014 Lexus LX, 2014 Lincoln Navigator , 2014 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, 2014 Nissan Armada, and 2014 Toyota Sequoia.
