Takata Will Recall ALL Its Airbags
New developments in Takata’s disastrous airbag odyssey: after being forced to recall more than 7 million defective airbags due to a faulty inflator, the manufacturer has now been forced to recall the entirety of their production run in the United States.
So far, Takata has tried to contain their recall to Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands of the United States, stating that the defect only occurred in high-humidity locations. However, the NHTSA has now said that the Japanese safety equipment manufacturer will have to change every single airbag in that production run, regardless of where the vehicle has been sold. According to the safety agency, the fact that a car was sold in a ‘’high-humidity’’ State doesn’t mean it is still there, as used vehicles are often sold all over the country.
The total number of affected vehicles is not available right now, but should be announced shortly.
In Canada, no decision has been made, but judging from past decisions concerning important safety issues, our government may act soon.
