Changes For The Next Alfa Romeo Spyder
As you may remember, rumours were flying around about a partnership between Alfa Romeo and Mazda. They would team up and produce two different roadsters: Mazda would have the MX-5, and Alfa Romeo was going to use the Japanese car's bones to build a new Spyder using their own engine, electronics and cockpit. Both cars would have been assembled in Hiroshima.
It seems that the plan has changed: the Spyder is still in the cards, but it won’t be related to the MX-5. It will instead use the Giorgio architecture (which Alfa Romeo is currently building for their new lineup of RWD cars).
This does not mean that the Mazda/FCA alliance is over: according to some sources, Fiat may decide to use Mazda’s chassis to build an all-new rear-wheel drive roadster. This could mean a new Barchetta, or even a car built exclusively by Abarth…
This is particularly interesting news for us: not only is the Fiat dealership network more widely spread in North America, but the brand is also more well-known, since it’s been here longer.
As of now, there is no release date for either model.
