Ariel Nomad: An Atom For The Great Outdoors

Published on December 24, 2014 in New Models by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

We don't have to describe the Ariel Atom anymore: this little street-legal kart is capable of embarrassing Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini on the track while costing a fraction of the price. However, the Atom is not in its element when the pavement ends: it's low, its suspension is rock-hard and the fact that it doesn't have any bodywork makes it very likely that you will eventually get hit in the face by the flora and the fauna. This is why Ariel has launched the Nomad, an off-road racer.

This little car takes the same recipe that made the Atom so popular, and adapts it for having fun in the dirt: its suspension is raised, it has protection plates and a rollcage. It now even features a windscreen, for protection against the elements. The engine is still a 2-litre four-cylinder from Honda, and the Nomad remains 2WD. Overall, the Nomad weighs 700 kg, or about 150 more than the Atom.

Orders will start next year at 30,000 euros, and Ariel is proud to say that the Nomad will be street-legal.
