Magnum MK5: Homegrown Performance

Published on January 15, 2015 in Montreal by Jean-Charles Lajeunesse

Looking for a track-day vehicle but loath the chore of trailering it to the nearest track? Introducing the Magnum MK5. Built in Boucherville, the MK5 is the direct descendant of a successful line of Formula Ford cars Gilles Villeneuve, a young recruit at the time, drove to a championship victory. It is the perfect tool to win with on Sunday and drive to work on Monday. This is not a joke; the vehicle includes all the necessary road-legal equipment. On his first drive, Gabriel Gélinas (who knows his way around a racetrack) came out mightily impressed with the ease with which the car can be driven very fast. Thanks to its centrally-mounted engine, six-speed sequential gearbox and double-triangulated suspension with adjustable shock absorbers, the MK5 boasts the DNA of a real racer and build quality that is anything but home-made. With a 250-horsepower Suzuki motorcycle engine powering a car weighing just 545 kg, the performance is astonishing. The annual production of 20 vehicles and a price of approximately $150,000 guarantees exclusivity.
