How About A Brand-New 1956 Ford F-100?
The restomod trend (which consists of taking an old car and replacing some or all of its mechanical components with modern ones while keeping the stock look) is getting more and more popular in the restauration community. Who wouldn’t want to drive around in an old classic with the power and features normally found in a brand-new vehicle?
This is exactly why Bodie Stroud created the BSI X-100. Using the body from a clean 1956 Ford F-100, his restoration shop then builds a completely new vehicle around it.
First of all, the boxed chassis is created from scratch. Then, nearly every body panel is modified: chopped hood, larger rear window, tubbed bed, chromed bumpers, larger doorsills… The truck’s antiquated suspension has been thrown away, replaced by a four-link fully-adjustable suspension. Big Wilwood brakes are also installed to give the pickup superior braking capabilities. The whole truck’s interior is replaced by one from a new F-150; the dashboard has been plucked from a King Ranch.
Under the hood, Bodie Stroud gives you a choice; the base engine is Ford’s own Coyote V8 (normally found in the Mustang GT), developing 412 horsepower, but you can also outfit your truck with a 6-litre V8 –dubbed the Aluminator– with a supercharger bolted onto it. This mill is good for 630 horsepower.
