Here Is The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE

Prior to the New York Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz just unveiled the latest iteration of its GLE SUV. Now you might be wondering what a GLE is. Let me refresh your memory: The German manufacturer recently changed its naming scheme in order to make it easier for the customer to tell them apart. The GLK became the GLC (because it’s the C-Class of SUVs), the ML is now the GLE and the GL has been renamed GLS. Simple, right?

So, here is the 2016 GLE: while its styling isn’t dramatically different from the last one, it is now much more easily recognizable among other Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Inside, there is a new steering wheel, and an infotainment screen which looks like it was placed there as an afterthought. Buyers can choose between a wide variety of textures for the accents: aluminium, piano black, carbon fibre, ebony, walnut, eucalyptus…

Under the hood, there are also many options: From a twin-turbo 3-litre V6 boasting 333 horsepower to the 4.7-litre V8 and its 435 horsepower to the 457-pound-feet of torque turbodiesel mill, there is something for everyone. If you want to rip out the pavement, there is even the GLE 63 AMG, with 557 horsepower and the capacity to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The AMG S model is even more powerful, boasting 585 horsepower from the same engine.

At the other end of the spectrum sits the GLE 500e, a hybrid version. With a pair of electric motors, the SUV can go 30 km without using a drop of fuel.
