The First 2015 Chevrolet COPO Camaro Will Be Auctioned

Published on April 14, 2015 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

If you are a straight-line acceleration enthusiast, you have heard of the COPO Camaro: this racing version of the popular muscle car is built to participate in professional drag racing competitions straight out of the factory. It can be fitted with a wide array of engines to enable the owner to enter different racing classes, and has acquired a wide following among Chevrolet’s enthusiasts.

Only 69 units of the COPO Camaro will be built in 2015, and the very first to roll out the assembly plant will be auctioned. Powered by a 5.7-litre LSX engine fitted with a 2.9-litre Whipple supercharger, the combination churns out 555 horsepower and features a three speed automatic gearbox, helping this muscular coupe run the quarter mile in 8.5 seconds. Not a lot of stock vehicles can boast a similar time.

The car bearing the 2015COPO001 serial number will be available for bidders at the Barret-Jackson auction on April 18. This very special Camaro is offered by GM, but 100% of the winning bid will go to a charity organisation that helps veterans participate in athletic competitions.
