2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class : More Modern Than Ever

They might not be displayed in showrooms anymore, but the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (the legendary Geländewagen) is still sold. Built pretty much as-is since 1979 and originally designed for military usage, the industry’s squarest vehicle is now a luxury SUV.

2016 will bring a few changes to the vehicle. First of all, the base-model G500 receives a new twin-turbo 4-litre V8 engine. Producing 422 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, this mill enables the truck to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 5.9 seconds.

If you want more power, you can go for the AMG models: The G63 receives 27 more horsepower, for a total of 571. And if you want the best of the best, the G65’s V12 engine has 630 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, which should be enough to lug the big G-Class around.

You will be able to spot the 2016 model-year by its new bumpers and enlarged fenders.

As a reminder, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class starts at $122,600, while the G63 AMG can be yours for only $152,700.
