$53 Million For The Andrews Collection
There comes a time in everyone's life when you want to get rid of some of your numerous material possessions. Some gearheads will go as far as getting rid of one of their cars; if said car has some kind of monetary value, it will be sent to an auction.
But what happens when you have a lot of rare cars? You usually get in contact with an auctioneer, who will then round up a few potential buyers.
This is what happened to the Andrews, a father-son duo who collected approximately one hundred cars. They wanted to downsize their collection to 15 or 20, since they had too many cars to properly enjoy them. They contacted RM Auction, who set up 80 different lots to be auctioned without reserve. The sale ended on March 2nd, and the results are impressive: all cars were sold, and the total sale was $53,900,000 USD.
The most expensive vehicle to hit the auction block was a 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet, which sold for $7,645,000 USD.
Among the other vehicles were a 1962 Shelby 289 Competition Cobra ($1,980,000 USD), a 1934 Packard Twelve Individual Custom Stationary Coupe by Dietrich which broke the record for a Packard with a price of $4,180,000 USD and a beautiful 1959 300 SL Roadster ($1,842,000 USD).
