Volkswagen Golf GTE Sport Concept Unveiled At Wörthersee
Just in time for Wörthersee –one of the biggest events on the calendar for VW aficionados– Volkswagen unveiled another concept to impress their fans: the Golf GTE Sport Concept, a futuristic GTI.
While the styling is clearly Golf-like, the car has been fully redesigned with large fenders, sharp LED lights and stylish wheels. Inside, the cockpit has been inspired by a Formula car: the driver is cut off from the passenger by a large divider, all important controls are easily accessible, a holographic display shows important information and the steering wheel looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.
The car even has a hybrid drivetrain. Under the hood sits a 1.6-litre four-cylinder developing 299 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This small mill is helped by a pair of electric engines (one in the DSG gearbox and the other on the rear axle). Total output is an impressive 400 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
With all this power, the concept goes from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and will eventually hit 280 km/h.
While this car will obviously never be built for the general public, some of its technologies might make it into future VW products.
