Here's What The Maserati Levante Will Look Like

We know that Maserati is working on its very first SUV, the Levante. While the manufacturer hasn’t announced any teasers or shown any pictures of the vehicle, we’re fairly certain that we know what it will look like, as Autoguide just published the patent drawings for the Levante.

Filed in Australia on April 8th, the technical drawings shown here portray a sporty little SUV based on the Quattroporte and Ghibli’s platform.

For now, we expect that engine choices will vary in range between a twin-turbo V6 and a Ferrari-sourced V8. In Europe, diesels will be offered, and a hybrid version is supposedly in the works for a later release. Regardless of engine choice, an eight-speed gearbox will be standard, as is AWD. Also, while Maserati is part of the FCA Empire, the Levante won’t share drivetrain components with Jeep or Dodge; it will use the Ghibli’s Q4 system.

The official unveiling may arrive as early as 2016, and Maserati hopes to sell 37,000 units yearly before 2018.
