OFFICIAL: Lamborghini Will Build Its SUV

The Urus concept was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in 2012. Since then, the very idea that Lamborghini might build a large 4x4 has made people talk; apart from the LM002 –a vehicle commissioned for the Army– the manufacturer has always stayed on the pavement and built V12 supercars and GTs. We have heard a lot of speculation about this vehicle, from an upcoming release date to its assembly plant to the drivetrain choices.

Finally, Lamborghini released their official statement on the matter: starting in 2018, we will be able to walk into one of their dealerships and see a four-wheel drive crossover sitting between a Huracan and an Aventador.

To build this new SUV, the brand decided to expand their Sant’Agata Bolognese assembly plant (instead of opening a new factory in Eastern Europe, as we initially thought); it will now span 150,000 square-metres, up from 80,000. Lamborghini will also hire 500 people, so if you want to start working for the fabled Italian manufacturer, now’s the perfect time to apply!

Lamborghini hopes to sell around 3,000 SUVs each year. They will be sold globally, and should help Lamborghini double its sales volume.
