BMW Reportedly Working On A 2 Series Gran Coupe

This may not be unbelievably surprising, but BMW is working on diversifying its lineup. After launching Gran Coupe versions of its 4 and 6 Series (which are basically sedans with a sloping roof based on the coupe version of their regular sedans… still following?) it seems that BMW is now planning to do the same to its small 2 Series.

There is no confirmation of any kind by the manufacturer, but the arrival of a small sedan in its lineup would make a lot of sense. BMW’s competitors, Mercedes-Benz and Audi, are currently making money hand over fist with their CLA and A3; the Bavarian manufacturer obviously wants its share of this market.

As a reminder, the 2 Series starts at $36,000; this means that the BMW could directly rival the other two small German sedans. It would also retain the 2 Series architecture, which means that it would be offered with either RWD or AWD. Finally, with rumours of an M version of the 2, we could see a muscular version of this upcoming sedan sooner rather and later…
