BMW Reveals Its 2016 X1

All hail the new X1! BMW just revealed its refreshed sub-compact luxury SUV, and it shows promise.

First things first, how does the car's exterior look? Finally, the X1 looks like a small X3, which is what it should have been right from the beginning. As you can see in the pictures, the 2016 X1 no longer looks like a weird crossover. The premium model will come equipped with LED headlights, which should complete a quite well done exterior.

Under the bonnet, we will find a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine developing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent to all four wheels by an eight-speed automatic transmission.

BMW won’t be offering any other engines in North America. We will however likely see an M Sport variant of the car in a couple of years, which should come with an upgraded powertrain.

In the cabin, the car will come standard with a 6.5-inch screen and a 7 speaker sound system. An 8-inch screen will be offered on option, with a 12 speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Buyers will also be able to buy technology packages, such as the Drive Assistance Package, which includes clever systems such as 'pedestrian' radar and 'lane departure warning.'

Prices for different trim levels will be revealed sometime in the fall. Will the new X1 offer enough to compete with the Porsche Macan? Probably not, but it will likely cost less.
