Return Of The Renault Alpine

Renault took advantage of the 24 Hours of Le Mans to unveil the Alpine Celebration Concept, which heralds the return of the historic coupes to the French manufacturer's lineup.

Like the name implies, the concept also celebrates an important event, as 2015 marks the 60th anniversary of Alpine.

The concept’s styling is reminiscent of the A110-50 Concept that was launched in 2012, but it also bears resemblance to the A110 Berlinetta, with its quad headlights (the inside ones are covered with an X, like on an old racecar). The wheels are based on those found on the A110 and A130, and even the car’s colours are a throwback, as they were originally found on the A210 Le Mans, which raced in the endurance race in 1966.

Renault didn’t want to reveal what engine lurked behind the seats, probably because it’s a temporary powertrain; we expect the final version to be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder.

The final version should be launched next year, possibly at the Geneva Motor Show, and should then go on to be sold sometime in 2016.
