We Celebrate Speed At Goodwood!

This week, The Car Guide will be heading to England in order to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an annual hillclimb race where hundreds of cars and motorcycles are clocked as they race up the hill at full speed. The course is 1.86 km long and serpentines between the rows of trees and stone walls of the Goodwood Estate.

At the event, we’ll find modern and classic as well as road and race cars – even F1 cars participate! In fact, the record time for the Hillclimb event was achieved in an F1 racer, a McLaren MP4-13 with Nick Heidfeld at the wheel. The record was set in 1999 and still stands today.

Each edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed is based on a theme. This time around, it’s called Flat-out and Fearless: Racing on the Edge, celebrating the most spectacular moments and drivers in motorsports history, such as the famous duel between Gilles Villeneuve and René Arnoux during the final lap of the 1979 French Grand Prix.

A few automakers will be at the event as well, showcasing their sports car line-up, and some off-the-wall cars usually pop up, too. Follow us on carguideweb.com to catch a glimpse of this speed-soaked event.
