Volvo Wants To Keep Your Children Safe

Swedish manufacturer Volvo, one of the world’s leaders in safety, just launched the Excellence Child Seat Concept, which is designed to put your children’s safety ahead of everything else.

Fitted on a pedestal that replaces the front passenger seat, the contraption faces backwards. This not only gives the rear passenger an ideal position to tend to the child, but it’s also the safest place for a baby in a car; before the age of 3 or 4 children don’t have enough muscle in their neck to support their head in a car crash.

There is a large tray underneath the seat, useful to haul everything that comes with a baby.

The idea of having no passenger seat up front might not be implemented in passenger cars anytime soon, but those alternate seating configurations might find their way into the autonomous vehicles of the future.
