Here Is The New Ecto-1

When I hear the word Ghostbusters, the first thing that pops into my mind (apart from the catchy theme song!) is Ecto-1, the ghost hunter’s ride of choice. Their 1959 Cadillac ambulance acquired a mythical status and now stands among Hollywood’s most iconic rides, like the 1969 General Lee Charger, Christine (a 1957 Plymouth Fury) and agent Bullitt’s Mustang…

We have known for a while that the Ghostbuster franchise would get a reboot on July 22nd, 2016. Fans have already started criticizing every decision that has been made –like the choice of actors and director– but it seems that they now have something else to talk about: the new Ecto-1 has been unveiled.

The production team decided to stay in Cadillac’s lineup, but it’s now a 1989 Cadillac Brougham hearse that will ferry the team around.

This decision is controversial: where the original vehicle was stylish and unique, this new car is somewhat dull.

However, if you think about it, the choice makes sense: while the 1959 Cadillac is nowadays a classic, when the original movie came out in 1984 it was little more than an old beater… Pretty much just like the 1989 Brougham is today.
