Toyota Recalls 625,000 Priuses Over Software Problem

Toyota just announced that its best-selling hybrid, the Prius, has to be recalled for a problem in its electric drivetrain.

In some case, the software that controls the electric motor and the hybrid controller can cause the circuit board’s transistors to heat up. Usually, this would cause a warning light to appear on the dashboard, however the temperature can rise so high that it could damage the circuitry.

625,000 vehicles are affected: 125,000 in America, 340,000 in Japan and 160,000 in Europe.

The repair is simple: all you have to do is bring your car to a Toyota dealership and a technician will update the problematic software.

Toyota is currently mailing warnings to affected customers so that they can contact the nearest dealership and make an appointment for the repair.
