2016 MINI John Cooper Works: We're Driving It This Week

Published on July 27, 2015 in Spotlight on by Alain Morin

After launching the new generation Cooper and S version last year, MINI didn’t just sit back and rest on its laurels. Now the brand-new John Cooper Works (more affectionately known as “JCW”) is coming to North America for the first time. Formal introductions will take place in New Haven, Connecticut, and The Car Guide will be there with bells on.

Under the hood of the MINI JCW is a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 236 lbs.-ft. of torque. While these numbers may not seem high by 2015 standards, keep in mind that the MINI weighs less than 1,300 kilograms. Inspired performance and road handling are to be expected, while the 0-100 km/h sprint should take about six seconds. See the spec sheet for this MINI on steroids.

As a reminder, MINI belongs to BMW, but its vehicles are still built in Oxford, England.

More details to come in the next few days!
