Volkswagen Sells More Cars Than Toyota

For the very first time, Volkswagen has snatched the #1 spot in term of sales, beating Toyota in the process.

Between January and June 2015, Toyota managed to sell 3.02 million vehicles; that is 1.5% less than last year. We can blame declining sales in Japan for the slump.

Volkswagen managed to do a little better, selling 5.04 million cars in the same period of time, thus climbing onto the first step of the podium. However, the German company is also selling fewer vehicles than last year (-0.5%).

Toyota had been number one for 3 years straight; before that, GM had dominated for the last 7 decades.

Speaking of GM, they have yet to communicate their sales numbers; it will be interesting to see where they stand in the top 3.

Volkswagen could nonetheless keep the first place for the rest of the year; Toyota expects that their sales could be up to 1% lower than last year (10.23 million units).
