Nissan GTR Spec V Spotted in Left Hand Drive

Published on February 2, 2009 in News by Dan Fritter

After setting the world on fire with its unparalleled level of performance for a ridiculously low price tag, Nissan’s supercomputer/car, the GTR, has rocked the sports car world to its very core. Having appeared in countless blogs, websites, and forums, debate about the GTR’s performance rages on, with differing opinions balancing the world of performance figures with driving excitement. But providing a backdrop to all this argument was always the news that the GTR would eventually be joined by an even faster variant.

Appearing a couple months ago, the expected Spec V model was released with the unfortunate news that the fastest vehicle to wear the GTR badge would not be made available in North America; or anywhere else outside Japan, for that matter. With just a handful of dealerships getting approval to sell the Spec V within Japan, the strict control placed on Spec V distributorship was a sobering reality to those hoping for a Spec V vs. ZR1 showdown in their favourite car magazine, but good news may be on the horizon. As spotted in one of the latest “Best Motoring” videos, one can clearly see a GTR Spec V testing mule complete with left hand drive. Be it an early production prototype or a test mule, rumour has it that just such a model will be released for the European and middle eastern markets, with no word as yet on a North American release. However, critics are sceptical of the Spec V’s chances on this side of the ocean due to the massive $100,000 price jump between the affordable GTR and Spec V models.
