Audi Considers R8 V10's North American Possibility

Although it may have debuted in Michigan, it would appear that Audi is not sold on the idea of importing their new V10-powered R8 to North America. Going on sale in the second quarter in its native Germany, Audi was tight-lipped about the release of the R8 V10 5.2 FSI stateside. The Lamborghini-powered, mid-engined supercar was rumoured for nearly a year before being released at Detroit.

Borrowing the same Lamborghini-sourced V10 as the S6 and S8 models, the new flagship model produces 525 horsepower and is capable of reaching 100 kph in just 3.9 seconds. Nearing the performance of it’s even more potent brother, the Lamborghini LP560-4, the Volkswagen group may consider the R8 to be too similar to share in the same market; a market where their own Gallardo (upon which the LP560-4 is based) has sold extremely well for the Italian marque.
