2015 Drive For Smiles: The Power Of Cars

The Starlight Children's Foundation’s Drive For Smiles event took place on Sunday, August 30th at the ICAR Circuit in Mirabel, Quebec. For sick and disabled kids, it was a great opportunity to leave their usual struggles behind and enjoy a few laps around the track.

The ICAR Circuit was specially prepared to make room for nearly 100 dream cars, which included a Charger Hellcat and an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione—both of which were out on the track, offering kids a ride.

The Car Guide had three cars at the event: a Lexus RC-F, which was kept busy doing track laps, and two Mustangs, which people could sit inside in our booth.

To some, the whole affair may seem like no big deal, but for most of the kids who made it out, it was the event of the year. You should have seen the smiles on their faces when they slid behind the wheel of a Mustang convertible. It was enough to melt anyone’s heart.

It certainly drove home the point that cars are so much more than a mode of transportation. They’ve moved into the metaphysical, especially legendary models like the Mustang.

We’d like to give a shout out to the vehicle owners who so generously shared their speedsters with us to create a special day for so many people. We may not always realize it, but these acts of kindness can—fortunately—make a huge difference in the lives of children.

Of course, we also have to raise our hats to the incredible work that the parents of these kids put in, day in and day out. They constantly have to deal with situations that most of us would find extremely challenging. Far before the supercars, these are the real heroes.
