Honda Won't Offer The S660 Here, But...
A while ago, Honda launched a small two-seat sports car in Japan; a spiritual successor to the Honda Beat, the vehicle is powered by a 660cc, 63 horsepower three-cylinder powerplant. It is also features a recipe loved by driving fans: a mid-engine layout, light weight, RWD and a manual gearbox.
Rumours were flying around that this pint-sized sports car would come to our shores. We even heard that it would have a turbocharged, 150-horsepower engine and a different name: S1000.
Sadly though, it seems that Honda won’t offer the car here, after all. When asked if the S660 would come to North America, Vice President of Honda North America, John Mendel said that there was pretty much no chance that it would happen.
This is a bad news for fans of sporty Hondas, but it’s not a death blow; the manufacturer still has a few interesting models like the Civic Si and its bigger brother the Type R (which should be arriving shortly, by the way).
Mr. Mendel said that Honda's dealership network has been clamoring for an affordable sports car ever since the S2000 was axed. According to the dealers, this type of car would sell very well.
