The 1.4 TSI And Volkswagen Golf R: We’re Driving Them This Week
The Car Guide is heading to Ottawa for an all-German program:
First, we’ll be checking out Volkswagen’s new entry-level engine, a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo. It’s replacing the old 2-litre that powered most of the automaker’s vehicles in the early 2000s. The Beetle, Golf and Jetta all used this venerable mill for years. With 138 horsepower, the new engine includes a host of new technological advancements—and we’re eager to put them to the test.
The next test promises to be even more interesting. We’ll be testing the new Golf R on the Calabogie track. Based on Volkswagen’s compact car, the R comes with the same 2-litre four-cylinder turbo found in the GTI. With 292 horsepower, this mill sends power to all four wheels by way of a dual-clutch DSG transmission or manual gearbox. It goes without saying that this model is highly anticipated.
Check back in the next couple of days to get the full report on these two new German cars!
