GMC Canyon/Chevrolet Colorado Diesel Delayed
This morning the EPA announced that General Motor's new 2.8 litre turbodiesel engine (which will eventually be found in the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon intermediate pickup trucks) will be delayed, as additional tests (notably, on the road) need to be performed.
Even though these engines share absolutely nothing with VW's TDI (apart from the fuel type), it's clear that this decision was influenced by the recent Volkswagen scandal, since the EPA doesn't want to get caught out twice...
However, GM's engineers are confident that their engine will pass these tests with flying colours. According to GM, the engineers have ran their own tests on the 180 horsepower, 369 pound-feet of torque diesel engine, making sure it is clean, regardless of the condition.
The new launch date has yet to be confirmed.
