Mercedes-AMG Wins Manufacturer Championship In Formula 1
In case you’re not following this year’s Formula 1 season –nobody will blame you, trust me– know that after the end of last weekend’s Russian Grand Prix, only four races remain in the calendar.
During said race, two major events influenced the 2015 season. First of all, German driver Nico Rosberg saw his chances of winning the championship evaporate after mechanical problems forced him to retire on Lap 7. His team, Mercedes-AMG, fared better however. Because Lewis Hamilton finished first, the German team effectively won the Manufacturer’s Championship for the second year in a row.
With a score of 531 points, Mercedes-AMG can celebrate. Even if its closest competitor (Ferrari, with 359 points) was to somehow win all the remaining races, they wouldn’t score enough points to pass them on the scoreboard.
The Driver’s Championship is still up for grabs, however. If Hamilton keeps on winning, he may end up scoring his 3rd World Championship. However, Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) is still a threat since he is only 66 points behind and that there are still 100 points up for grab.
