Volkswagen Will Compensate TDI Owners
In case you weren’t aware of the scandal around Volkswagen’s diesel engines, here is a quick summary: A few months ago, a report about these engines surfaced. In the report, it was alleged that the German manufacturer was installing a program in the engine’s computer that reduces power when the vehicle is tested.
Recently, Volkswagen admitted that that’s exactly what it did, and it is now in the process of gaining back its clients' trust. To do so, the manufacturer assured us that they will now be completely honest about the whole process, and that they will financially compensate current TDI owners.

While Volkswagen Canada is still calculating how much it will give to each owner, the US division has already started handing out compensation. Customers need to log onto a website and enter the VIN number of their car to determine if it is affected. Once that’s done, they need to give their address as well as the mileage of their Volkswagen.
They will then receive two gift cards: a $500 USD Visa prepaid card and a $500 USD card that can be used at a Volkswagen dealership. Also included in the package is 3 years of roadside assistance. Once the client has the cards in their possession, they will need to go to a dealership to activate them.
We will update you as soon as Volkswagen Canada issues their compensation package.
