After being unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the Giulia midsize luxury sedan made its North American debut in Los Angeles in order to strengthen the Italian brand’s product line-up.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio boasts a Ferrari-derived 2.9L V6 that’s force-fed by two turbos and belches out 505 horsepower in addition to 443 lb-ft of torque. According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, it can blast from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 306 km/h.

The Giulia also benefits from a six-speed manual transmission, a rear-wheel drivetrain, 19-inch alloy wheels with staggered tires (245/35ZR19 front, 285/30ZR19 rear) and near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Brembo brakes are standard, while a higher-performance, carbon-ceramic braking system is optional. To keep the car’s weight down, the Giulia’s driveshaft, hood and roof are made from carbon fibre.

The Quadrifoglio gets a cockpit dressed in stitched leather and Alcantara, trimmed with genuine carbon fibre and aluminum. The red engine start button is integrated into the sedan’s steering wheel, while the driver's instrument panel consists of a seven-inch LCD display. The usual electronic driving aids will be on board as well, such as blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.

There will also be tamer versions of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia, which will be powered by a turbocharged, 2.0L four-cylinder engine that is said to develop 276 hp. An all-wheel-drive setup will be available as well.

The Giulia will join the Alfa Romeo 4C and 4C Spider in the brand’s North American line-up next summer, and the Quadrifoglio will be priced at $70,000 USD. No word yet on Canadian pricing.
