Porsche Presents The 2017 911 Turbo And Turbo S
The 2017 model year will be a significant one for the iconic Porsche 911, as a new turbocharged engine found its way in the Carrera and Carrera S that also received some cosmetic changes. And now, the 911 Turbo and Turbo S just got their refresh as well.
The two cars now get LED daytime running lights, 20-inch wheels and redesigned air vents, among other things. A new engine lid and a slightly reshaped rear bumper are also included.
Under that rear hood, the 3.4-litre flat-six engine remains, still fed by two variable-geometry turbochargers. Thanks to modified inlet ports and improved injector nozzles, the 911 Turbo now produces 540 horsepower. As for the Turbo S, it gets new compressors to help generate 580 hp. Both engines gain a dynamic boost function that can maintain pressure in the turbos even if the driver briefly lifts the throttle.
Obviously, performance has improved. The Turbo S is 0.1 second quicker in the 0-100 km/h sprint, achieving that speed in 2.9 seconds. Add a tenth of a second for the 911 Turbo. By keeping the gas pedal wedged to the floor, the Turbo S will reach 330 km/h (up by 12), while the Turbo will reach 320 km/h.
Among other modifications worth mentioning, the Sport Chrono package is now standard, and a front-axle lift system can ordered in order to clear obstacles such as speed bumps.
The 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S will be unveiled at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, which will open its doors to the media on January 11.
