Montreal International Auto Show: See You There!

Published on January 1, 2016 in Blog by Alain Morin

Year after year, Montrealers have a reason to celebrate right after the holidays: it's the Montreal International Auto Show! As always, the event is taking place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, the city’s convention centre. It’s the auto event of the year for car buffs and a practical stop for folks who are simply looking for a new vehicle.

As usual, the Auto Show is much more than just cars!

Kia Kids Zone

What could be more satisfying than passing on your love of motor vehicles to your children? Except that after 10 minutes, your kids’ interest in this valuable inheritance may wane. And that’s exactly when the Kia Kids Zone comes to the rescue. Located near the lobby on the main floor, this childcare centre caters to kids aged 3 to 10 years old, free of charge.

Performance Zone

Without a doubt one of the most exciting aspects of the Montreal International Auto Show, the Performance Zone showcases modified cars, some of which take tuning to the extreme. From the car that has had every component revisited to the 4x4 ready to tackle Mount Everest, not to mention race-worthy cars, there’s something for everyone! These works of art on wheels will add some sizzle to your January!

1967 Mustang project

Le Guide de l’auto, Quebec’s leading automotive publication, is celebrating its 50th edition this year. To mark the event, the team behind the book had a 1967 Ford Mustang restored by the students from the École des métiers de l’équipement motorisé de Montréal. The car will be on display at the Montreal International Auto Show, and when the show closes, a draw will be held to see who will become its next owner. In partnership with the Montreal Automobile Dealers Corporation, the proceeds will be donated to organizations that help kids stay in school. If you want a chance at having this Mustang in your driveway, tickets cost $20 and will be available at the show. You can also purchase tickets online on The Car Guide's website

Top Favourites and EV test drives

For the past few years, the Montreal International Auto Show has been boosting the fun factor by giving the public a chance to test drive a wide range of vehicles around the convention centre. This year, the models available to try out include Volkswagen Tiguan, Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 4MATIC, Kia Sorento, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Scion iM, Tesla Model S, Buick Encore, Nissan Murano, Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Volt, Cadillac CTS, GMC Terrain and Lexus NX 200t.

Meanwhile, CAA-Québec, a proud partner of the Montreal Auto Show, is offering visitors the chance to demo electric and hybrid vehicles such as the BMW i3, Chevrolet Spark EV, Chevrolet Volt, Ford C-MAX Energi, Ford Focus EV, Ford Fusion Energi, Kia Soul EV, Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Porsche Cayenne and Panamera S E-Hybrid, and Tesla Model S.

Mustang contest

Every year, the Montreal International Auto Show holds a contest to give away a car to one of the show’s lucky visitors. This year, the prize is a 2016 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Premium Fastback valued at nearly $45,000.

Pagani Huayra

There’s no shortage of cars at the Montreal International Auto Show, but this one really stands out. In fact, there’s a good chance that the Pagani Huyara may steal the show this year! Valued at a staggering $2.2 million, this car is more of an artistic masterpiece than a mode of transportation. But since some people can afford to drive works of art, others take the time to build them. Thanks, Horacio Pagani!
