A Tire-Smoking Machine For Detroit

Published on January 4, 2016 in Detroit by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

I got a riddle for you: what has four wheels, comes from Lexus, can burn a set of tires easily and will be shown at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show?

I don’t have the answer, sadly; we will have to wait a few days (until January 11, to be exact) for it, since the only thing Lexus showed us so far is the above image.

There is not a lot to go on, but we can speculate. Since the image shows a set of burned rubber tracks, we’re pretty sure the vehicle that is about to be unleashed at the auto show will be a high-performance version.

From there, there are only a handful of options: there could be a new version of the IS F – a sedan that boasted a 5-litre V8 and was discontinued in 2014.

If not, the teaser could indicate that a more powerful version of a Lexus SUV could be on the verge of being revealed – maybe a sportier RX, or an NX with a bigger engine.

Finally, some rumours state that an all-new vehicle is coming. Back in 2012, Lexus showed a very attractive concept, the LF-LC. We were curious to see if this prototype would ever become a production vehicle, and we heard that some camouflaged vehicles were seen running around. Two versions would be planned: a Lexus LC 500 (with a 5-litre V8) and an LC 500h hybrid.
