2017 Honda Ridgeline: Honda's Truck Is Back
We were expecting it ever since Honda entered a race-spec version at last year’s Dakar Rally; after more than one drawing and rumours, we can finally look at the 2017 Honda Ridgeline.
Set to go up against the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier, the Ridgeline is different. Unlike its competitors, it sits on a monocoque architecture. This will give it improved ride comfort, but its towing capacities could be diminished.
Just like the Pilot on which it is based, the 2017 Ridgeline will feature a 3.5-litre V6. However, instead of the optional nine-speed automatic gearbox found in the SUV, Honda chose to use the more conventional six-speed auto. All-wheel drive is now optional; on the base-model versions, only the front wheels will be moving the vehicle.
In the back, the Ridgeline has a lockable and waterproof compartment under the bed. It can be drained by removing a plug, which means it can double as a superb cooler. There are also speakers in the bed, transforming the Ridgeline in an ideal tailgate vehicle.
Inside, you can pretty much expect the same interior as in the Pilot.
