2017 Volvo S90: The New Luxury Sedan

Volvo unveiled the 2017 S90 at the Detroit Auto Show, which will replace the current S80 and become the brand’s new flagship sedan. The 2017 S90 uses the same architecture as the Volvo XC90, the company’s large SUV whose latest generation was launched last year.

The Volvo S90 boasts styling that’s very modern and especially much more aggressive than its predecessor, the S80. It stands out with its concave grille up front and its sloping roofline at the rear.

Three available powertrains

No less than three engines will be offered in the 2017 Volvo S90, including a turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder that develops 240 horsepower in the front-drive T5 version as well as a turbocharged and supercharged four that generates 316 hp. Finally, a plug-in hybrid version dubbed the T8 will also be offered, which boasts an impressive 400 hp. A semi-autonomous Pilot Assist feature will keep the car aligned in its lane by controlling speed and steering at up to 130 km/h.

With a plethora of technologies destined to keep its occupants safe and sound, the Volvo S90 adopts the brand’s 2020 philosophy that seeks to eliminate all fatal accidents aboard a Volvo vehicle by the end of the decade.
