The Hyundai ICONIQ, A Challenger To The Prius?

Published on January 15, 2016 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

Throughout the years, more than one manufacturer tried to emulate the success of the Toyota Prius. However, no one managed to beat the Japanese hybrid at its own game.

The next attempt will be made by Hyundai. To do this, they published a few details on their next car, the IONIQ.

First of all, there will be three different versions of this car; a conventional hybrid, a rechargeable version and an EV variant.

The one in the above picture is the hybrid IONIQ. It features two engines: a 1.6 litre four-cylinder developping 103 horsepower and an electric motor good for 43 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. A good old six-speed automatic gearbox sends the combined power to the front wheels.

According to the manufacturer, the car can go 120 km/h in full EV mode.

Hyundai mentions that the IONIQ gets a few unique techs like a GPS that will analyze your destination and will make you go through the most efficient route as well as integrated Android Auto and Apple CarPlay systems.

The Hyundai IONIQ will be shown at the Geneva Auto Show.
