2017 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, Targa And Turbo S: We’re Driving Them This Week
This week, The Car Guide is heading to South Africa to drive the new 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, Targa and Turbo S models on the track and on public roads. With this tasty selection of models, Porsche is meeting the strong demand of its customer base, as on a worldwide basis, more than one third of 911 buyers choose an all-wheel-drive version. Mechanically identical to the rear-drive 911 Carrera and Carrera S editions, the Carrera 4 and 4S are equipped with the same twin-turbo, 3.0-litre flat-six engine, which develops 370 in the Carrera 4 and 420 hp in the 4S. Porsche is also enhancing the car’s driving experience with standard-issue Porsche Active Suspension Management system, or PASM, while the rear-wheel-steer system is optional on the Carrera 4S.
Also scheduled during the event is the drive of the ferocious 911 Turbo and Turbo S variants that have just been unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. With an output now rated at 540 hp for the “base” version and 580 horses in the S – up by 20 compared to the outgoing versions – the new 911 Turbo promises mind-boggling performance.
