130 Years Of The Automobile: Mercedes-Benz Honours Its History

Published on January 21, 2016 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

According to Mercedes-Benz’s history book, they invented the car 130 years ago with the Benz Patent-Motorwagen (there are people that will argue that this or that inventor had a working car before that, but we’ll leave that discussion to them).

To commemorate this important date, Mercedes-Benz wanted to release a limited-edition car. But which model would perfectly encapsulate so many years of achievements?

Since the first cars built by Mercedes-Benz were open-top vehicles, they decided to use a convertible. And why not choose the very best one in the current lineup?

This is how the Mercedes-Benz S 63 4MATIC Cabriolet Edition 130 was born. Compared to the "base-model" car, this version gets a few exclusivities. For example:

Since this is an S 63,  it comes with a twin-turbo V8 developing 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. And with the help of the 4MATIC system, it can get from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Pricing has not yet been set for this model; however, since production will be limited to 130 units, we can expect a bill much, much higher than the $178,300 asked for a regular S 63…
