2016 World Car of the Year: Top Three Finalists Announced in Geneva

GENEVA, Switzerland – On the first of two media days at the Geneva International Motor Show, the World Car Awards announced the three finalists in each of their usual five judging categories.

A panel made up of 73 automotive journalists from around the world, including yours truly, have submitted their votes by secret ballot, and international accounting firm KPMG compiled the results.

For the 2016 World Luxury Car of the Year Award, the finalists are:

- Audi Q7
- BMW 7 Series
- Volvo XC90

For the 2016 World Performance Car of the Year Award, the finalists are:

- Audi R8 Coupe
- Honda Civic Type R
- Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé

For the 2016 World Green Car of the Year Award, the finalists are:

- Chevrolet Volt
- Toyota Mirai
- Toyota Prius

For the 2016 World Car Design of the Year Award, the finalists are:

- Jaguar XE
- Mazda CX-3
- Mazda MX-5

For the overall 2016 World Car of the Year Award, the finalists are:

- Audi A4 Sedan / Audi A4 Avant
- Mazda MX-5
- Mercedes-Benz GLC

The winners of the 2016 World Car Awards will be announced at the New York International Auto Show on March 24. The Global Trends Report will also be announced in New York; this year, it will focus on the introduction of stricter test procedures for vehicles around the globe.
