A Modern Nissan GT-R for the New York Auto Show

Do you remember the year 2008? For the first time in recorded history, the barrel of crude oil reached $100. Fidel Castro stepped down from Cuba's government, appointing his brother Raoul to rule in his place. Barack Obama was elected President for the first time, and Beijing's Olympic Games were in full swing.

The car of the year was the Nissan GT-R R35: when it was launched, this supercar could beat pretty much everything on the market.

Like a good wine, the GT-R got better and better: if it produced 480 horsepower when it came out, its 3.8-litre V6 now makes 545. It's faster, more agile and more comfortable than ever. However, its bones are starting to age, and the competition has more than catched up...

At the New York Auto Show, Nissan will show up bearing the latest version of Godzilla (quite the nickname, right?) to remind everyone who's in charge; we will see what they have changed on March 23.

So far, the only thing we have to go on is the above picture. The car's styling will obviously be updated, and we can expect some go-fast goodies under the hood.
