Pricing Announced for the 2016 Mazda CX-9
In Mazda's current lineup, the CX-9 kind of sticks out. It was the last to use a non-SKYACTIV platform, and its V6 engine had close ties to Ford's old Duratec powertrain.
The new generation of the CX-9 was introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November. From a styling and engineering standpoint, the big SUV is now much closer to the CX-3, the Mazda6 and even the MX-5. We know that it will adopt the brand's proprietary KODO styling. We also know it will be powered by a turbocharged 225-horsepower, 2.5-litre engine.

What we didn't know was just how much it would cost.
The 2015 CX-9 starts at $33,995, but with all the upgrades the new one packs, we expected a hike of a few thousand dollars.
Turns out it's less than we thought: the 2016 Mazda CX-9 will start at $35,300 for the base, front-wheel-drive model (AWD is a $2,500 option).
The GS-L is the next step up: it comes with all-wheel drive as standard, as well as the i-ACTIVSENSE safety system, a sunroof, a rear hatch that opens electrically and a heated steering wheel. This version starts at $41,400.
For 2017, the GT is back, although it doesn't stand at the top of the range anymore. It gets 20-inch wheels, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, satellite navigation and a projector displaying colour images on the dashboard. The GT can be yours for $45,500.
Finally, it's the Signature trim that will be the most expensive CX-9 out there. For $50,100, it will cradle you in Nappa leather, entertain you with its Technology package and give you beautiful rose wood accents.
