Mercedes-Benz Will Unveil the GLC Coupe in New York

It might be hard to understand, but the "coupe" SUV market (they're not really coupes since they have four doors, but try and explain that to their marketing department...) is currently booming; with the success of the BMW X6, a lot of manufacturers are launching similar vehicles.

At the New York Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz will add another SUV to its lineup. Based on the new GLC, this newcomer will have a sloping roofline which offers less headroom and a diminished cargo area.

Named GLC Coupe, this SUV will share its drivetrain with the conventionally shaped GLC. Like in this vehicle, the base engine will probably be a turbocharged 2.0-litre four developing 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The gearbox should be a nine-speed automatic, and AWD will probably come standard.

Mercedes-Benz announces the GLC Coupe as the sport car of its segment; this means an AMG variant equipped with a twin-turbo, 4.0-litre V8 engine might be in the cards.

We will know more at the New York Auto Show, which opens on March 23.
