Hyundai Celebrates 500 000th Elantra Sold in Canada

Although the Canadian automotive market isn’t very big compared to some other ones, it’s an important one for Korean brand Hyundai. A manufacturer sells a half-million units of a nameplate in our country can be seen as a considerable milestone.

Last month, Hyundai sold the 500 000th copy of its compact Elantra in Canada. The historic vehicle is a sixth-generation 2017 Elantra GL—freshly redesigned—and was delivered to a customer in Montreal. A good portion of those sales were racked up by the fifth-generation car, which was sold from 2010 through 2015 and continuously challenged the Honda Civic for the title of bestselling car in Canada.

For now, the current Hyundai Elantra is only sold as a four-door sedan, just like the first-gen car which was sold in Canada from 1990 to 1995. The second generation offered a sedan and a station wagon from 1996 to 2000, while the third gen was available in sedan and five-door hatchback body styles from 2000 to 2005. The fourth generation of the Hyundai Elantra was sold here between 2006 and 2010 in sedan guise, and as a wagon from 2008 to 2012. The fifth generation was available in coupe, sedan and five-door hatchback body styles.
