While the New York Auto Show is grabbing much of the automotive press’ attention this week, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada just unveiled the winners of their annual Canadian Green Car of the Year Awards at the Vancouver Auto Show.

This year, the Chevrolet Volt grabs the title of AJAC’s Canadian Green Car of the Year. It received the highest marks, beating the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Honda Civic which were also amongst the finalists.

AJAC’s Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year goes to the Mazda CX-3 for 2016. The other finalists for the award were the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle and the Honda HR-V.

These vehicles were tested last October during AJAC’s week-long Canadian Car of the Year Program event, where more than 70 automotive journalists from all across Canada gathered to drive the year’s new cars and trucks. For the Canadian Green Car of the Year and Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year awards, votes were collected during two rounds of scoring, using secret ballots, and the results were compiled by accounting firm KPMG.
